Early Valentine

Here are the penguins I previously posted about! They are both custom orders for Valentine presents for a little girl and her Dad. I wrote the patterns for both of them and am trying to decide which pattern I like better. Please let me know which you think is cuter. The one on the right is supposed to look like the baby Emperor Penguins from the movie Happy Feet.

These penguins are about 6 inches tall, stuffed with Polyfil and have marbles in their feet for weight. Crocheted in a spiral - the black and white penguin body was crocheted in one part which was fun trying to figure out the decreases and increases in the middle of color changes - first time I tried that!

Your penguins are both absolutely adorable. My VERY faint preference is for the one on the left, simply because of the b&w color contrast--and also, I think, because of its greater similarity to a cherished penguin my daughter loved many years ago! But I think that you won't go a single bit wrong with either.
BTW, I remember (once upon a time) making "beanbags"--I filled them with (uncooked) rice, on the grounds that if one ever leaked, broke, or was deconstructed for some reason, swallowed rice wouldn't be a problem, while beans might wind up in a (momentarily unsupervised) little nose, ear, or throat. Maybe skip the marbles and substitute enclosed small cloth bags of sand or rice? Even if the recipient never pulls things apart, friends and cousins could. . . . just being paranoid here, but if a hotdog slice is potentially dangerous, I'd worry about a marble.
Not on safety grounds, but just because very little fingers may explore and pull, if you stitch names, I'd use smaller stitches.

OMG...you are one very talented woman and I am so envious! While both versions are soooo cute, my inclination is to vote for the one on the left...if I have to choose one. I like the contrast of black and white and think it just "pops" a bit more than the other one. Either way...they're both winners!

They are both adorable, truly. I also slightly prefer the orange nosed-footed one.

I actually like them both. I think the grey one looks like he's wearing a little penguin sweater and that's CUTE!

I do like the little orange nosed guy, but truthfully, I couldn't pick one over the other.

They are both adorable! For what it's worth... I like the black, white and grey one for a male, and the one with the heart and orange for a female. I am totally envious of your talent!

I, too, am envious of your amazing talent. Congrats on your first pattern! The penguins could not be any cuter. I love the heart with the name on it. It makes the penguin so sweet. Well done!
